City Water Project

DUNDURN RURAL WATER UTILITY/SOUTH CORMAN PARK

PHASE III CITY WATER PROJECT

If you have any questions, please contact Luke Muirhead at 229-6019

The City Water Project will be sent out to tender by the end of August or the beginning of September.  The Utility is expecting that some of the contract work on the main lines will be started this fall.

Some quick facts about the project:

  1. The project has grown considerably in size since the initial meetings in January.
  2. When completed, the Project will include up to 1800 homes in one of the largest rural pipeline systems in the province.
  3. Communities that are now confirmed on the project include:  South Corman Park, Furdale, Riverside Estates, Riverside Golf and Country Club, Beaver Creek, Dundurn, Hanley, Blackstrap Provincial Park, numerous developments along Highway 11, and although not confirmed yet, the Canadian Forces Base, Dundurn is expected to join the project as well.
  4. When the system is fully operational the demand for water will be approximately 1000 imperial gallons per minute.
  5. The main line connection for the system will be a 10 or 12 inch diameter pipeline.
  6. There will be approximately 300 Km of pipeline laid to complete the project.
  7. The pipelines are buried a minimum of 9 feet deep.
  8. The system will be using open cut trenching for the main lines, direct ploughing for smaller lines and horizontal drilling in sensitive or difficult to access areas.
  9. The Project received over $14,000.000.00 in federal and provincial grant funding as part of the Federal and Provincial Build Canada Infrastructure initiatives of the two levels of government, and the total estimated cost is approximately $23,000,000.00.  This number will be finalized as the tenders are awarded.
  10. The system is being built with some excess capacity.  The extra capacity will be available to future subscribers on a first come first served basis.  The excess capacity is NOT sufficient to connect everyone to the water system.
  11. If you still wish to connect to the system, please advise us sooner rather than later as the costs increase the further into the project that we get.
  12. The deposit required now is $2000.00 and the final cost for a subscription is estimated to be $13,000.00, or higher depending on where you are on the system.
